A daydream is a visionary fantasy, especially one of happy, pleasant thoughts, hopes or ambitions, imagined as coming to pass, and experienced while awake. There are many different types of daydreams, and there is no consensus definition amongst psychologists. Daydreams may involve fantasies about future scenarios or plans, or reminiscences about past experiences, and may include vivid dream-like mental images. They are often connected with some type of emotion. While daydreaming has long been derided as a lazy, non-productive pastime, it is now commonly acknowledged that daydreaming can be constructive in some contexts. There are numerous examples of people in creative or artistic careers, such as composers, novelists and filmmakers, developing new ideas through daydreaming. Q. I keep resolving to stop sometimes manage not to do it for a few days, but then it comes back worse than before. Even if I only daydream during free time, my mind just won't want to turn it off when it's time to do something important and trying to suppress it becomes a distraction in itself. Some people say to find an activity, but the problem is I can't be doing an activity the whole day and I will still have to do things that are boring like study or work. The less you're trying to escape from in your day to day life, the happier you are in your "real" life, the less you'll likely daydream. It will likely always be a part of your life and could really be a gift. It's perhaps telling you that you're unhappy with some areas of your life so that you can pay attention to those areas and make changes.
