Denver is a consolidated city-county, located in the South Platte River Valley on the High Plains, just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is located immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 12.8 miles (21 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is nicknamed the "Mile-High City" because its elevation is one mile, or 5,280 feet (1,609 m) above sea level. Populationwise, it is the largest city within a 500-mile (800 km) radius and the second-largest city in the Mountain West after Phoenix. Denver is the most populous city in the Front Range Urban Corridor, an urban region stretching across eighteen counties in two states, and the second-largest in area after Colorado Springs. I am intending to travel to Denver tomorrow and is concerned about the road conditions as I have never driven in snow before. I will be staying at downtown denver and is intending to drive to the following places. 1. Royal Gorge 2. Winter Ski Resort 3. Rocky Mountains National Park. Well there are busses but they dont go through the National park in Estes Park, The roads are pretty well kept up most of the time but you will have some snow to drive through no matter what. No snow up here, I live in Loveland, which is close to Rocky mountain national park. So you will be okay here. But winter park, there is usually snow up there and not really sure about the Royal Gorge. Just take your time, as I'm sure somewhere through all of those you will have some winter driving conditions. Good luck and be careful. It seems that the most obvious avenues for buying guns from private sellers (The Denver Post classifieds, and Craigslist) does not allow guns to be sold. In other words, gun ads are prohibited. Surely there are a lot of people who are interested in selling handguns in Colorado, but how do I find them? I am not interested in any type of retail operation where I have to pay sales tax and jump through all the hoops. Buying guns in Colorado from private sellers is legal. (this state DOES exist out side of Denver!) I see them for sale all the time in the Pueblo Chieftain, the Daily Record and the Mountain Mail. Try yard sales and flea market. (they used to have them all the time when Pueblo had flea market) Also try the Thrifty Nickle and the Shopper (the Shopper even has a guns and ammo section separate from other sporting goods) I have also seen some listed on craigslist as farm eq. (against CL rules but still there a lot on Colorado Springs and West Slope CL) Gun shows? Q. My wife and I are planning on moving to somewhere around Denver in the next year. We have looked at Evergreen, and while it is pretty much perfect to what we are looking for, there is no way we could afford a house we actully liked there. I am a teacher and she is a hair stylist so we are not the richest bunch :). Is there any place around Evergreen that is more affordable, yet still in a mountain setting? Houses are much more affordable and the commute is easily doable except during blizzard conditions. There are homes right in town and several nice subdivision like areas nearby. Other areas to look at are Morrison and Indian Hills. Both are more reasonable in price with a mountain feel.
